David Luiz Nearing Return To Chelsea First Team

David Luiz has to start a game under new Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas, but if he comes through Brazil’s friendly against Ghana tomorrow he is hoping for selection against Sunderland at the weekend.

Luiz has been speaking to the Sun newspaper about his injury and his frustrations of not being able to play. He said, “I didn’t want to get injured, but these things happen in football. I’m missing playing in the Premier League so much and I hope I get to play again very soon. It’s very frustrating when you’re hurt because you want to be out there. Everybody wants to work, especially when you love your job. Of course, when it’s the coach’s decision for me not to play it’s very frustrating too, but you always want to get better as quickly as possible when you’re injured. To play in a great team you have to have a great mentality to overcome all the difficulties.”

He was also asked about what Chelsea’s chances were of winning the league this season. He said, “Chelsea are a great team and always enter every competition to win. I’m sure we’re going to do our very best to win the championship back from Manchester United.”

He also spoke about the clubs new arrivals over the summer by saying, “They are great players, excellent players. If Chelsea called on these players, it’s because the club know they’re valuable and talented. I just hope they can help us become stronger. It’s always important to have good players to help you.”

Having David Luiz back at full fitness must be like having a new signing for Andre Villas-Boas, and if he is fit he is sure to start next weekend against Sunderland.
