The Italian manager who took over from Andre Villas-Boa managed to lead Chelsea to FA Cup and UEFA Champions League titles, but he still doesn’t know what his future holds.
Eddie Newton, who was brought to Chelsea to assist Di Matteo, admitted they have no clue which will be the final decision regarding Chelsea’s manager.
There have been reports that Chelsea owner Roman Abramobich would like to offer Di Matteo a one year contract, but this hasn’t happened so far, and the Italian’s future on Stamford Bridge is uncertain.
Newton said: “It’s fantastic what we’ve done, but as for the future, it remains up in the air.”
“The situation is that we’re contracted to the end of the season, June 30.”
“There may be a job. There quite possibly won’t be.”
“The reality is we don’t know. Nothing is fixed.”
“We’re still digesting what we’ve done. But nobody at the club is telling us anything.”
“We all want what’s best for Chelsea, that goes without saying.”
“But we have absolutely no idea what the club thinks that is.”
Di Matteo has had a very short period with Chelsea, but he managed to win the FA Cup and Chelsea’s long time dream, the UEFA Champions League. He’s had little time to prove that he is a great manager, but if he managed to win means that he should be given a chance.
The devil you know is better than the angel you don’t know. Please chelsea give these guys a chance as it seems that the players and the fans already have confidence in them. Even if you should bring in Mourinho plus Guadiola plus Alex together, it will be useless when the player do not have a working pattern with them and Di matteo have already started a pattern for success.
