Chelsea made it look easy in the first half and once Didier Drogba had made it two in the second half it looked all over, but Liverpool finally decided to play and very very nearly got the equaliser when Andy Carroll’s bullet header was somehow kept out by Petr Cech.
Roberto Di Matteo is now looking like a lot more than an interim manager and we can only surmise where we would be now if he had taken over at the beginning of the season. With the luck he is having right now he should take advantage of the Sky offer from InstantPokerMoney, but he is simply more than happy to lift the FA Cup as a manager after winning it as a player with the Blues many years ago.
Di Matteo was more than pleased to have brought that unusual record. “I dont think many people have that opportunity,” Di Matteo said. “I’m fortunate enough to have been able to play for this club and win the trophy, and now I’ve been able to lead the team here and win the trophy as a coach.
“It is special because it doesn’t happen too often.”
During the celebrations he refused to get into a conversation about his future at the club. “It’s totally irrelevant just as it was irrelevant seven weeks ago,” Di Matteo said. “I’m very pleased with my position until the end of the season and at the time the boss will make his decision which will be the best for the club and we will respect it.
“I’m very relaxed about it. And the players will be fine whoever is going to be here next season. It’s not an issue.”
“I’m very happy for the players,” Di Matteo concluded. “We’ve had a difficult season and a lot of criticism and I think today the players responded to all the adversity that we have faced this season.”
Great job Roberto, now we have the small matter of a visit to Munich in a couple of weeks…..
