Good news for all Chelsea fans as Diego Simeone has all but confirmed that Diego Costa is on his way to joining the Blues according to The Daily Mirror Newspaper.
Chelsea are billed to start transfer talks with the Spanish club in coming weeks to finalise the deal to bring the striker to Stanford Bridge next summer. The Blues, who have been drawn to play against Atletico in this year’s Champions League semi-final, are desperately in search for a new striker.
The player’s manager, Diego Simeone also spoke about reports linking the 25 year old Spanish striker with Chelsea:
“It will depend on him and what he thinks is best for his future. I will support any decision he makes.
“It’s natural that Chelsea are interested in him and that makes me happy, because my aim and that of my coaching staff is to see our players improve.
“We understand that Chelsea have huge financial power and if he wants to live off football for the rest of his life, I will have no problem in him going.
“It was like Radamel Falcao – how could I tell him not to go to Monaco [last summer]? He gave life to this club [during his time at Atletico].”
The Costa deal, which is expected to be in the region of £50 Million, was brokered by Jorge Mendes, with Atletico responsible for paying a huge percentage of the amount involved to a third party company according to the Daily Mirror.
Chelsea are also looking at the possibility of placing some of their strikers on transfer to pave way for Costa. One player that may be heading out of the club next season is Fernando Torres, who has been battling for form since the start of the current season. Simeone also spoke about him:
“Fernando is always with us [in spirit], obviously I have sent messages to him,” said the ex-Argentina midfielder. “He is very happy with everything that is happening to this team and he is always present, wishing us luck.
“Of course he would love to come back to the club he grew up in and where he was happy.”
It is not yet clear if Torres will be going the other direction as part of the Costa deal; but reports have not stopped circulating that the Spanish international is on his way out this summer.
