In what appears to be the move that finally breaks the camel’s back, Chelsea target, Mauro Icardi has finally agreed to a new deal with Inter Milan. Contract talks had continually stalled for more than a month, and it was looking like the Argentina international was on his way out of the San Siro at any point. Stamford bridge had seemed like one of his possible next stops, as the 22 year-old was said to be waiting for Chelsea to come to his rescue as he was “trapped” at the Italian giants’ side. Back then, reports leaked that the Special One was in regular contact with Icardi over the phone. But with his new deal, he definitely won’t be in the EPL next season.

The joint-top scorer of the Serie A has his wife as his manager, and after much discourse with the club, a deal has been agreed that will keep him at Inter until 2019. His ability to finish finely in front of goal attracted offers from all around, with Atletico Madrid also once interested in the prodigy. Icardi is regarded as one of best young forwards all around Europe elite leagues in recent times, and has seen his stock rise. However, his non-inclusion in the Argentina’s squad for the Copa America has come as a surprise to many.

Inter placed 7th at the end of the Serie A season, and won’t be appearing at any of the 2 European competitions next season, but that isn’t enough to trigger him to leave for Chelsea where Champions League is guaranteed. The player says he would stay with the club and hope to guide them to Europe next season as he hopes they bring in more capable players. With Icardi no longer available for sale, Chelsea will definitely have to continue their search for that Drogba-replacement and Costa backup.
