Chelsea recently picked up another Brazilian, Nathan Allan Souza, or “Nathan,” from his local Brazilian outfit Atletico Paranaense, for 4.5 million Euros. The 19 year old, dubbed the next Philippe Coutinho, chose Chelsea over the other blue team from the Premiership, Manchester City. Nathan is regarded by many to be the next big thing to come out of Brazil, having proven himself at both club and country level.

He is mostly known as a pacey creative midfielder, a “10,” creating linkup plays and gifting assists to other players, but he can also score his fair share when need be. In the U17 World Cup, he scored 5 goals in just 5 games.

The reason Chelsea was able to get him a such a cut-price is because his contract negotiations for his previous club were at a stalemate. However, he will finish the season in the Brazilian league and Nathan will arrive in London in July, ready to make his Premier League debut in the 2016 season.

There have been reports that he will go out on loan to a lesser team in Europe, possibly the Blues’ partner club Vitesse, in order to obtain experience, and because Chelsea currently have a surplus of midfielders. Nathan has the same agent as also highly-rated compatriot center-back Marquinhos, so it’s clear he’s hot property if he’s being thought of as being in the same bracket as the world class defender. One of the midfielder’s favorite hobbies is fishing, and Souza would become the fifth Brazilian on the first team if promoted, alongside Filipe Luis, Willian, Oscar, and Ramires.
