Reports reaching us say that Sevilla and Chelsea have both agreed a deal on Gael Kakuta. For most fans of Chelsea who do not remember Kakuta, we would take a brief look at him.
Gael Kakuta is a French winger who was signed by Chelsea from Lens in 2007. His signing however got Chelsea into trouble and saw them banned by Fifa for two consecutive seasons from signing new players over inducing and signing of Kakuta from Lens without observing the laid down rules. This ban was however lifted after Chelsea contested the ruling at Court of Arbitration for Sports. His former teammate, German legend Michal Ballack once said about him “Go see the French lad, he is the star”.
Unfortunately he has lived up to be the star, atleast not the world class star Chelsea fans were all expecting him to be. Since he signed for Chelsea, Kakuta has only had 16 appearances and has rather spent his time on loan at Fulham, Bolton Wanderers, Dijon, Vitesse, Lazio and most recently RayoVallecano over the past 6 seasons.
With RayoVallecano though, Kakuta has turned around his fortunes, proving critical to the la liga side avoiding relegation. Making 35 appearences all in the starting line up, it seems that Kakuta is reviving his stale career and Sevilla look to want to hijack him now while they still can. According to reports, the Frenchman will be signing a contract of four years with the Europa League winners.
