Done Deal – Midfielder Agrees Chelsea Move, Will Join Club On July 1

Jose Mourinho

It looks like Chelsea might have gotten themselves a rare gem of a future player after signing a 16 year-old Swedish. The prodigy plays for IF Brommapojkarna in his country’s league, and after having developed since December 2013 when Chelsea has had him on their agenda, a move has now been actualized and Joseph Colley will be in England by July 1 to finalize deals as a Chelsea player. Definitely, his improvement and growth in the Swedish capital, Stockholm haven’t gone unnoticed by the EPL Champions.

His move comes at a time Chelsea’s skipper, John Terry prepares to leave. The 34 year-old will be hanging his boots at the end of next season, and Chelsea wants a long-term replacement for him. Colley stands at 6 ft, and plays as a centre defender, right back and midfielder, and he is tipped to fill Terry’s shoes. But that wouldn’t be happening immediately, given the quality of the youth team and other team B players. Although Kurt Zouma and Nathan Ake are also options, but both are likely to be away from the club by next season given current reports.

Colley too won’t be playing in the first team, and a loan to either Netherlands or Belgium is possible, so as to get his chance of first team action and develop into a Chelsea material in few seasons to come. Gary Cahill and Terry will continue their partnership in the heart of the Chelsea defence next season, after having combined together for seasons effectively. Last season was their best, helping Chelsea concede the least goals. But with age not on their sides, Chelsea are planning for the future, and Joseph Colley is likely to be part of that future.
