The Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been named alongside midfielder Michael Essien in the top five players from Africa in 2009.
The other three are the ex-Barcelona star Samuel Eto’o, who scored in this years Champions League who plays for the club MFinal. His ex-team mate Yaya Toure has also been nominated, despite not being picked very often by his club this season.
The last candidate is Tresor Mputu Mabi, who is a 23-year-old Congolese player who plays for Mazembe in his home country.
Mabi is expected to be the next great striker to come out of Africa and has been described as the new Samuel Eto’o. He was named as the Most Valuable Player at the Championship of African Nations in March, as Congo beat Ghana 2-0 in the Final.
