Drogba Replacement? Chelsea Plan Move For £25m Rated Striker – Not Griezmann

Jose Mourinho

It is almost certain that Drogba’s contract with Chelsea will not be renewed and if it is renewed, it will not be as a player but rather as a coach with the club. For this reason, Jose Mourinho has reportedly been working in the background to get in another striker or two for Chelsea against next season.

It is reported that Jose Mourinho is not comfortable with Chelsea’s over-reliance on Diego Costa and wants to sort this problem before the transfer window gets to busy and messy. Although Chelsea has Remy who has bailed out the club on a number of occasions this season, the injury prone nature of the Frenchman is cause for worry for Jose Mourinho.

To this end, Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko is reportedly been targeted by the Chelsea boss. Dzeko, 29, signed for the Citizens in the winter of 2011 in a deal believed to be worth £25 million. After a good start to his city career, the Bosnian has seen his first team chances limited by the hot form of Aguerro and manager Manuel Pellegrin insistence on playing a one striker system.

Dzeko is reportedly frustrated with life at the Etihad and wants out in the summer. This has put Jose Mourinho and Chelsea on red alert as the Portuguese thinks he can do a job for the blues in the league next season. However, considering Jose Mourinho has refused to sell to any of his direct rivals in the league, it remains to be seen if Pellegrin will allow Dzeko to move to Chelsea.
