Drogba starred in the game that was held at Valencia’s ground which ended with a 0-3 win to the Blues, contributing two goals and setting up one for Ramires in the middle, scoring the third only 15 minutes away from time.
Quoting the Chelsea captain, John Terry on Drogba after the game, who lauded the Ivorian striker with elaborative words:
‘I think we’re all obviously delighted. We left it late in the group but we did the job and Didier was fantastic for us,’
”We knew it was going to be difficult, which it was, and we needed a big man to hold it up and give us time to get up which he did.’
‘It was important we didn’t concede. We set out with a game plan, and obviously the early goal from Didier helped us but we still had to hold on and the second goal came.’
‘The manager stressed that a third goal kills them off, which it did, and it was a great third goal from Didi after a great start to get us on the way. If he’s only 80 percent fit, there’s plenty more life in him!’
That leaves the management renewed confidence in the Ivorian Striker, which could perhaps change the rumour that has being going around that Drogba may be looking for a big-money move to another club in the Winter transfer window. He could have a renewed importance in the squad, showing reliability in the midst of in inconsistency in Torres and having no other team mates to take over after his assumed departure. As such this could change the short term plans for Drogba for his future, maybe giving him the opportunity to progress into management here in Chelsea.
