If the report in Italian media outlet TMW is anything to go by, Chelsea target Mauro Icardi is set to sign an extension to his contract at Inter Milan rather than move to England. According to the reports, the deal will make the player the highest paid player at the Italian club. According to TMW, the Argentine will get €4m per season.
There has been earlier reports that Chelsea manager had sent a text to the striker which reads; “We will do great things together. Keep it up, I am following you.” Icardi has scored a total of 18 goals in 33 serie a games this season so far. His performance this season despite Inter Milan’s average showing in the league this season has drawn the attention of the big clubs in England with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United also linked to him.
According to very reliable Italian journalist, part of the agreement in the new contract is that the player will retain 50% of his image rights while Inter Milan will keep the remaining 50%. A bonus will also be paid to the player due to the delay in sorting the contractual impasse. A meeting is reportedly planned for tomorrow ( Thursday ) which will see the player, his business representatives, lawyer and family in attendance and an announcement of the contract extension is expected within 10 days.
