Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba has urged the club’s interim manager, Guus Hiddink to sign Everton center forward, Romelo Lukaku. The Toffees forward has been in great form this season and have scored in 8 of his last 9 league games. The 22-year old who left Chelsea in 2014 is been lined up as a perfect replacement for the under performing Diego Costa.
The former Anderletch forward was sold by Jose Mourinho and would now cost £32million according to reports. There are strong indications that Drogba who sat between club owner, Roman Abrahmovich and Chelsea current manager, Guus Hiddink in the match against Sunderland might be one of Hiddink’s assistant in his second spell as blues coach and could make great impacts in the club’s transfer dealings by January.
Lukaku who hasn’t hidden his admiration for Drogba is reported to be a great friend of the Ivorian. Lukaku has once spoken about Drogba being his idol. Lukaku have scored 16 goals this season where Costa can only boast of 5 and he is also the first Everton player to score at least a goal in 8 consecutive Premier League matches.
The Big Belgian is only the 5th player in Premier League history to score 50 goals before his 23rd birthday. He only played 3 times under former Blues coach, Jose mourinho and was only a substitute in all 3 appearances. Since the slump in form of Chelsea 20 league goals striker, Diego Costa, Mourinho has always faced questions over the sale of Lukaku.
Chelsea signed Lukaku from Belgium as an 18-year old in 2011 due to his exploits in the Belgian league. Lukaku was snapped up for £18million, but life at Stamford Bridge for the 18-year old was never easy. This led to Lukaku going on a two-season loan deals before eventually leaving the club for Everton.
