The ex-Chelsea defender/midfielder, Jeffrey Ntuka, scored the only goal of the game yesterday as the Kaizer Chiefs beat Man City 1-0 in the Vodacom Challenge Final.
Ntuka, who failed to make the grade at Chelsea, still has hopes of playing in the Premiership, and is happy that the Chiefs have given him the chance to resurrect his career.
“It was my first goal for Chiefs” he said, “and I will remember it as it was against a top English Premiership side who I would love to play against again – only next time I would like to be playing in England.”
“When my contract ended at Chelsea (in January) I decided to join Chiefs. It was a good decision as I am enjoying playing for this club but I hope to play regularly and shine so that eventually I will be playing back in Europe and my first choice would be the English Premiership.”
“That goal was pay back for the coach (Serbian Vladimir Vermezovic) who has believed in me. It was a great feeling when the ball hit the back of the net.”
“We played to the coach’s instructions by playing to our strengths which are our ball skills, speed and commitment. City were more physically stronger but in the end I thought we deserved our win. It was a great way to end our pre-season training and gives everyone at the club added confidence for the season ahead,” said Ntuka.
Man City also lost 2-0 against the Orlando Pirates in this pre-season tournament, and this Final was also Emanuel Adebayor’s debut for City. He only managed one attempt on goal, a weak header that was easily dealt with by the defence.
So all-in-all, a good result for a Chelsea reject!
LOL – Even if they get John Terry it will still take a long long time before City can challenge for the Champions League. There aare too many other teams on the way up!
