Ferreira close to recovery at last

Paulo Ferriera has been out with a ruptured cruciate ligament since April (his third in just one season) and is only now able to train again, but he is hopeful that he can rejoin the first-team squad in the next few weeks.

Ferriera has been unlucky with injuries since he signed a five year contract in 2008, and has been restricted to just one league game since, but with Jose Bosingwa and Ivanovic now cemented into the squad in his position, and with Beletti available as cover, it is unlikely that he will ever be more than a sub from now on.

“I feel well, I am only just starting so let’s see how the knee reacts and it is a question of time,” he said.

“In the next few weeks maybe I will play a game with the reserves and see how it is, but until now everything is going okay and there is no pain.

“The manager has spoken to me and it is important, but I am only making five months now, so it is still important to be careful and take it progressively. I will improve day by day.”

“It is always different to train alone so I am happy to be involved and I hope to keep my luck. I just have to keep going and work hard.”

We all wish him the best in his recovery, and hope that one day he will be able to wear the Blue shirt again with pride.
