The ex-Bolton and England star Gary Cahill has committed himself to Chelsea until the end of his career by signing a 5.5 year contract at Stamford Bridge, with the compromise wages of 80,000 a week to keep him going.
That means that, if he fits in well, the 26 year-old is likely to stay at Chelsea until the end of his career, and he is the likely successor to John Terry as captain when the great man retires.
Chelsea have had a few defensive mishaps this season and hopefully Cahill will help to shore up the back line for the crucial second half of the season. The Blues are currently in fourth place and have a big gap to make up on the Top Three but it is no means an impossible task to catch Tottenham if not the two Manchester clubs.
Cahill made it clear that he has moved to Chelsea to win trophies. “Chelsea are a massive club who look to win trophies season in, season out.” Cahill said. “It is a big opportunity for me to be a part of that.”
“Opportunities like this, you can’t turn down.”
If his partnership with Terry develops this term then he is likely to partner the England captain at the Euro2012 competition this summer as well. Lets hope he becomes a rock for the Blues, and that he gets his wish to win lots of trophies!
