The Blues have been given some good news and some very bad news ahead of the EURO 2012 tournament, as one of Chelsea’s centre-backs is injury free, while the other is out of this summer’s tournament and will have to spend some time off the pitch recuperating.
Gary Cahill was pushed by Belgian international Mertens into Hart’s punches, and that hustled him up badly as the new Champions League winner will be spending a while on the sidelines recovering from a double jaw fracture.
On the other hand, John Terry is injury-free and will be continuing his EURO 2012 experience, despite also being knocked around pretty badly in the so-called friendly match against Belgium.
“Gary Cahill has been withdrawn from England’s Euro 2012 squad following the injury he suffered in the match against Belgium.
“The Chelsea defender has two fractures of his jaw, one either side. The England medical team have been in close contact overnight with Cahill’s club doctors who will treat him moving forward.
John Terry has been scanned this morning and given the all-clear. He will be re-assessed on Tuesday when the team regroup.”, stated the FA.
Cahill will surely return stronger from this, but it’s a shame that his chance to shine at the Euros had to be stopped after such a stupid and unwanted incident.
