Roberto di Matteo, Chelsea caretaker for the last few months, is getting closer and closer to receive a full time job as The Blues’ manager. The Italian took over from former boss Andre Villas-Boas in early March, and managed to win the FA Cup and the long-term dream of the UEFA Champions League.
Although di Matteo has had good results, rumours insisted that he will not be named Chelsea’s manager for the next season, with former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola favourite to take his job. However, over the past few days, sources at Stamford Bridge are increasingly confident that the Italian will be with the team at the beginning of the next season.
Former Chelsea legend, Gus Poyet, urged Abramovich to let di Matteo continue to do his job: ‘It would be common sense that he will stay.’
‘I call him ‘one of us’, one of our generation – with so many managers.’
‘Mark Hughes, Gianluca Vialli, Ruud Gullit, Robbie Di Matteo, Dennis Wise, Dan Petrescu, myself, Didier Deschamps – there are so many – ‘Chappy’ Ferrer.’
‘Why not one of us? Why should it be somebody else all the time?’
‘I’m not saying that we didn’t have good managers at Chelsea. I mean, Mourinho was different class.
‘But give us a chance.’
The Italian manager only came to Chelsea as a replacement, but he managed to achieve great things with the Stamford Bridge side. He deserves a chance after winning two titles in the few months spent with the club, and the fact that he has also played for Chelsea for 6 years mean that the fans are willing to back him up.
He deserves more than the chelsea job,God has helped him to do the impossible. He’s now in the caliber of great football teachers like Jose,Sir Alex,Guadiola, and others
