Harry forgot to tell Modric that he wasn't for sale! (Or will Redknapp follow him to Chelsea?)

To be honest I don’t watch a lot of Tottenham games (surprise surprise!) so I didn’t rate Luka Modric much, but it has been interesting reading about Roman Abramovich trying to poach the Croatian from Spurs.

When I read that Chelsea had bid £22m I thought it was a bit cheeky, and Redknapp’s response was totally expected. He said: “Luka is not for sale. If there has been a bid of £20m, that is ridiculous. There are people being sold for £20m who are not fit to lace Luka’s boots.”

All true Harry, but I bet you didn’t see today’s news coming! In case you havent read what Modric said I’ll just add a couple of extracts (taken from FootyLatest.com).

“I have an arrangement with the chairman. When I signed my new contract, he said that, if another club came to sign me, they would consider the offer.’

“Chelsea are a big club with an ambitious owner. They have great players and they have ambitions to fight for the title and win the Champions League.

“I want to stay in London. I am very happy here and so are my family. I like the city.

“It has to be good for my ambition. It has to be a club who are winning titles and playing in the Champions League.

“This is not about money, it is about ambition. When I came to England, I was dreaming about winning titles. That is still the same.”

I would just love to see Harry Redknapp’s face when he reads that this morning. I couldn’t help remembering a couple of weeks ago that Redknapp said that he would give up managing Spurs if they sold any of their best players, and a couple of days later there was a flood of money on Redknapp to be the next Chelsea manager.

Could Harry have told Abramovich that he will only take over at Stamford Bridge if he got Modric for him…
