Harry Redknapp has said that only a ‘dope’ could fail at Chelsea, as he readies his Queens Park Rangers squad to take on the Chelsea at Stamford Bridge today.
The new QPR boss was hired 3 days after Rafa Benitez took over the helm at Chelsea, with each other´s objectives and challenges very different.
Redknapp has been set the task of motivating his squad to fight for their place in the Premier League, whereas Rafa’s main objectives were to get Fernando Torres scoring goals and fix the Blues leaky defence.
The Englishman believes Benitez has the easier task, saying: “He has walked into a squad of players there who are Champions League winners – you’ve got a chance, haven’t you.
“You’d have to be a real dope to mess it up with that group of players: Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Frank Lampard.
“He’s a clever guy. Even in the West Ham game that they lost, they could have been out of sight at half-time.”
The R’s had been without a win before the Ex-Spurs manager took over, having picked up only 4 points in their 12 Premiership matches under Mark Hughes. but have since won 1 and drawn 3 in Harry’s 8 games in charge so far, showing a marked improvement on the pitch.
Harry added that this was no easy task, saying: “Since I’ve been here…I think they were all looking to blame each other for the horrendous start, but most have been fine and worked hard,
“We now need to find that little bit of quality somehow that can make the difference to us.”
QPR currently sit bottom of the table, 8 points behind the safety zone, and will be doing all they can to claim a big scalp at the Bridge today.
Chelsea however are currently sitting 4th in the PL table, with games in hand on all their rivals. The Blues are 14 points off league leaders Manchester United, but with 2 games in hand, and will be looking for a convincing win over their London rivals.
Chelsea have won their last 4 PL matches, and are growing in confidence of late. The West-London giants have conceded only 1 goal in their last 3 Premiership outings and will be hoping for another today.
Chelsea should win today’s game convincingly, and you have to agree with Redknapp, it would be hard to fail at Chelsea. We are a huge club and even Rafa Benitez has the team winning. The squad is full of stars that are hungry to win, and that is what we do.
