"I Want To Play For Chelsea Next Season" – Claims Ex Barca Star

Oriol Romeu

Former Barcelona player, Oriol Romeu may not have been part of the Chelsea squad that won the EPL title this season, but he hasn’t stopped being a Chelsea player at heart, and he has hinted that a return to Stamford bridge is still a reality. The Spanish defensive midfielder has been away from Chelsea since 2013, on loan first at Valencia, and currently at Bundesliga with VfB Stuttgart. His arrival in Chelsea back in 2011 looked promising, as he featured in 22 games and was touted as the heir to French Chelsea legend, Claude Makelele. But the instability of coaching crew led to his temporary departure.

He has now declared his intention to make a comeback in seasons to come, pointing to Matic as an example – the Serbian was on loan for 5 seasons and has returned to become an integral part of the Mourinho-led team that won the EPL.

“Last summer, I was training with the team in pre- season. Romeu said.

Then the club explained that they were looking at a loan deal. They said they believe in me but it was best for my development this season to play regularly. They said they see me as part of their future. I look at Nemanja Matic, for example, the way he went away for a while and then came back and I’d love to replicate that. I still dream of making it properly at Chelsea. I still do not know what will happen next season – of course I would love to return to Chelsea but I also want to be playing football”

The 23 year-old has appeared 25 times for VfB Stuttgart this season, and is hoping to help them finish above relegation level. He hasn’t made up his mind as where he will be next summer as his loan term expires at the end of the season. The versatile player who doubles as a defensive midfielder and central defender, hopes that in some seasons to come, he will be back and ready for first team action at the Stamford bridge.
