Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala are turning the footballing world upside down right now with the sums of money they are offering their players. Anzhi are owned by Suleyman Kerimov and he is keen to add more big names to his club one of which is rumoured to be Frank Lampard.
Last month Anzhi signed Samuel Eto’o from Inter Milan and made him the worlds most highly paid player, and there are reports coming from Russia suggesting that Lampard is on Kerimov’s wish list.
Lampard, 33, is not getting any younger and there have been calls from some supporters wanting the midfielder to be dropped from the team. Chelsea won 2-0 last Wednesday when he was not playing and looked a far better outfit on Sunday in the second half after he was substituted.
The reports from Russia say that Lampard would be offered a two year contract worth £13million a season, and the report also says that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is a target.
Can you really see Lampard moving to Russia? No neither can I. I know footballers are greedy and the sums of money that Anzhi can offer would be very difficult to turn down, but having just got engaged to Christine Bleakley Lampard would be unwilling to move.
It mat just be paper talk in Russia, but it will be interesting to see what happens especially if Lampard is left out of the team at Chelsea in the coming weeks and months.
