Ivanovic: Chelsea will have to overcome 'another Munich'

Branislav Ivanovic insists that Chelsea will have to overcome Corinthians and their mass of fans in tomorrow’s final, just as they beat FC Bayern in the Champions League in Munich.

Almost 30,000 Corinthians fans are expected to attend the Yokohama International Stadium tomorrow.

The Serbian captain said: “We’ve all been impressed by the Corinthians fans and how many there are.

“But that will make it a similar situation to the Champions League Final when we had to play an away game.

“Tomorrow there will be a lot of Brazilian fans as well as our supporters but it will be a South American atmosphere. We have to adapt to this quickly and set out focus on the game.”

Ivanovic added: “For us, this is the key game for this generation, one of the most important games for us.

“We’ve prepared by studying a lot of moments and clips. We watched Corinthians in the semi, so we know it’s going to be difficult and how they defend and play well.

“It will be a great challenge for all of us but this is one of the biggest chances of our lives and we have to do everything to win this game. We came all the way here to win.

“I hope this will be a key point for this generation. We’ve been eliminated from the Champions League which was a real disappointment because we know how hard we worked to become European champions.

“But this game is a chance for us to make history. For us it’s a great chance and we’re ready for that challenge.

“For every one of us in the squad it means a lot. We know this competition is huge in South America and for us it’s the same.

“These kind of games are decided by motivation. You do not get a lot of chances to become a world champion with your club so we have to take this chance and play to win it.”

Corinthians failed to impress me personally in their semi-final, and I firmly expect Chelsea to dominate through-out. If Chelsea win tomorrows final, being shown on BBC HD from 10AM, we will finally be able to call ourselves World Club Champions.
