Branislav Ivanovic has played 113 games for Chelsea in his three years at Stamford Bridge, and has played the majority of those as a right back, but over the course of pre-season he has been used in the centre of defence along side Captain John Terry.
Ivanovic also has the happy knack of popping up from corners and scoring his fair share of goals, and he did so again at the weekend when he scored the third goal in the 4-0 win over the Thai All Star XI. When asked about his goal he said, “It was a good goal. It is great because it gives you confidence when you score goals, but it is not important when a defender scores.”
He has also been sharing his thoughts on the games so far and when asked about the importance of pre-season he said the following. “It is important in these kind of games to see things that are developing. It is very important to keep going with a good defensive line, but at the same time we are looking for good play as well, and I think it is going to be fine for the start of the season. It is good everyone is working hard.”
Not sure AVB would agree about your comments on defenders not scoring goals Branislav, as it is important that every player on the pitch is
capable of getting on the score sheet. With four games played so far in pre-season and no goals conceded Ivanovic is more than happy, and he is more than happy to play wherever the manager wants him to.
Pls tell them more ivanovic. It is not important when a defender scores means other cfc defenders should not get carried away by his goals forgeting to stop opposite players from scoring. A true professional.
