John Terry impressed with 'future captain' David Luiz

The Chelsea captain John Terry says that new Brazilian defender David Luiz could one day wear the captain’s armband at Stamford Bridge. The central defender who joined the Blues in the January transfer window has been a sensation since his arrival and is quickly becoming a crowd favourite.

Terry told the Daily Star: “David is incredible. To have such an impact at such an early stage of his career here is amazing”.

He continued: “Normally, when a player first comes in it will take him at least three or four weeks to settle but David has come in and hit the ground running straight away. It’s very different for him over here. He has played in Portugal with Benfica, so he is learning about our game all the time”.

Terry then said that he believes the Brazilian could one day lead Chelsea on to the pitch: “We are talking long-term here but, for me, with the quality he has, he is possibly a future captain of this football club. David is a great lad. He wants to learn and improve every day. That is something we will get to see the longer he is here”.

Luiz is popular for irreverent in media appearances as well as for popping up with the odd goal. He has been a key factor in Chelsea roaring back into Premiership contention, now only three points behind Manchester United.
