Chelsea captain John Terry has defended Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti believing he should be allowed to stay at Stamford Bridge. Rumours have been flying for months that Carlo Ancelotti will be asked to leave and that he may be replaced by anyone from Guus Hiddink and Marco Van Basten to Gianfranco Zola and Villas-Boas.
But speaking to the Sun Terry made it clear he hopes Ancelotti stays at Chelsea. He said: “He’s got my full support. I love Carlo. He won the double in his first year and this season the injuries and releasing players has been tough for him”.
Terry believes that Chelsea lost too many players last summer and that is the cause for the poorer performances this season, especially when key players were out with injury. He said: “When José Mourinho was here we had a big squad but we miss that. Somewhere in between where we are, and what we had, would be ideal”.
Chelsea lost Ballack, Deco, Joe Cole, Belletti and Ricardo Carvalho before the start of the season and struggled when players such as Frank Lampard were out due to injury. This may be one of the reasons Abramovich is spending money on transfers again, but whether Ancelotti will be around to benefit is still up in the air.
It is very well blaming Ancelotti but all Chelsea supporters know that the reason the Blues dropped out of the title race was simply because Abramovich sacked Ray Wilkins. There is no way that Ancelotti can be blamed for that!
