Premier League champions Chelsea are interested in a swoop for Real Madrid star James Rodriguez and could use their relationship with his agent Jorge Mendes as a catalyst for the deal.
The 24-year old Colombian playmaker has endured a frustrating time under manager Rafael Benitez since his appointment in the summer due to limited playing time as a result of the former Valencia and Liverpool manager’s rotation policy.
James Rodriguez moved to Real Madrid from AS Monaco in 2014 after a stellar FIFA World Cup in Brazil, where he emerged as the Golden Boot winner and has scored 20 goals in 56 appearances for the 10-time European champions.
His transfer would be a welcome boost for the English champions after a mediocre season till date and could likely be an able replacement for Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who many Chelsea fans see as the main man behind former manager Josè Mourinho’s sack and has been linked with a move to the Italian Serie A.
Chelsea have struggled to replace former midfielder and club legend Frank Lampard but Rodriguez’s addition should address that due to his penchant for scoring goals from midfield. The club is expected to raid the transfer window next month in search of quality additions to save the team from their current slump in form and the possible move for James Rodriguez could well kickstart that.
