During Chelsea’s group game against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions league, the Blues were doing well, leading with 3 goals to 1. 7 minutes to the end of the game, the special one substituted a youngster fresh from the under-21 team for Cesc Fabregas. The Blues faithfuls chanted his name “Ruben”, he gave a quite-promising performance in his cameo, and has always been delivering anytime he was called upon. The most recent league match, against Liverpool was his 2nd ever match for the blues, and his performance stood out. A delighted Mourinho went ahead to declare after the match,
“He did well. It was better for him to play 60 minutes than to stay until the end. It was a fantastic experience for him – to feel the intensity and speed of the game and the way he has to think and compete. Loftus-Cheek is going to be a Chelsea player. That is not a doubt. I also believe others can too”
With just 2 appearances, he has sealed a trust in Mourinho that guarantees him first team action next season provided ” he can continue to perform at this level”, and he won’t be loaned out as Chelsea’s norm is with young players as him. But his quality looks promising, and the England under-19 international has promised to always offer his best. RLC says,
“It was amazing to be playing at Stamford Bridge with the stadium full. I have only experienced that for a few minutes when I came on as a substitute against Sporting Lisbon earlier this season. For me it was a big experience to take on and after that I want to work so much harder to push and push. Playing with some of the best players in the world, you’re going to get better every day. It’s important for me to work hard and give 100 per cent in training to try to improve. I think I have a good chance, if I work hard. It was amazing to be in the starting line-up. I was having to mark a good player in Coutinho and try and keep him quiet. I had to be at my best.”
