José Mourinho has a large list of positions that he wants to fill through the summer transfer window. There are to be five players coming in, and Chelsea’s new sponsor, Yokohama, could help aid Mourinho and Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, in funding for these moves. Even though Mourinho claims he is satisfied with his squad, he will look to bring in another striker due to the injury problems of Didier Drogba, Diego Costa, and Loïc Rémy. Mourinho also wants two goalkeepers to back up Thibaut Courtois next season, with the imminent departure of Petr Čech. A fullback could be on his way to West-London with Felipe Luis’ future still up in the air. Chelsea is also believed to be looking to add another midfielder to complete their squad for next season.
The addition of another striker could bolster the squad deeper in the Champions League next year, and provide help to Chelsea down the run in the Premier League. With teenage sensations Izzy Brown and Dominic Solanke already in the system, Mourinho could promote one of them. Patrick Bamford is on loan at Middlesbrough, and has won the Championship Player of the Year, leading Boro in their promotion to the Premier League. If Mourinho is looking to fill the position through the transfer market this summer, Mauro Icardi is at the top of his list. Icardi is currently playing for Inter Milan, and is rumored to cost about £30million [Metro]. Icardi being only 22 years old, and scoring 16 goals in 28 appearances, could be a star in the Premier League. Chelsea is also linked to Palermo striker, Paulo Dybala, and Brazilian wonder-kid, Douglas Costa. Mauro Icardi would feature in Chelsea’s first team plans immediately next season.
If Petr Čech is going to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, his replacement will have large shoes to fill. Mourinho’s number one keeper is going to be Thibaut Courtois next season, but he will need a backup, and José wants two players to push Courtois in training. Tottenham’s Brad Friedel is linked to a move to Chelsea, John Ruddy, Rob Green, Shay Given, and Craig Gordon could all feature as Courtois’ backup next season.
Mourinho wouldn’t change the dynamic of the team with these purchases, but he would merely fill holes that are already in the team.
