The London Evening Standard has reported that newly crowned English Champions Chelsea are reportedly plotting a swoop for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Erik Lamela.
Lamela-23 who joined spurs from As Roma in 2013 has become an integral part of Mauricio Pochettino team this season finding the back of the net 5 times in 46 games and as well providing 10 assist from the middle of the park.
The “special one” Jose Mourinho has set his sights on the Italian as a possible replacement for Winger Cuadrado who has not impressed since his big money move from Fiorentina and has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.
Lamela could be available in the region of €35m but it remains to be seen if Chelsea will splash such huge amount of cash on the Argentine winger.
Is this deal likely to pull through? In all fairness No if you ask me.
Simply put, who at Chelsea is he on the lookout to bench? Nobody if you see things from my perspective. With all due respect, Lamela is an overrated player who i am afraid isn’t above average and the star studded team at Chelsea will be too overwhelming for the winger to make any meaningful mark at the Stamford Bridge if bought.
Lamela needs to get his priorities right if he has any chance of being at the topmost of his footballing career. He is simply a victim of circumstance. It’s tricky enough to land on these shores from a different footballing culture and hit the ground running. On the pitch he has looked light-weight, uncertain and lacking conviction and it will be difficult to see why Chelsea will make a move for a player of sort when they have players who can pull strings and are way above him in terms of quality, no disrespect to him.
In football there are twists and turns but it will be interesting to see how this turns out but in my own opinion a move looks unlikely.
