The talented Chelsea youngster Gael Kakuta is set to stay in the squad for the Champions League match against Porto on Wednesday, after impressing in his debut against Wolves.
It was the transfer of Kakuta from Lens which caused FIFA to impose the transfer ban on Chelsea, but it seems that he is definitely worth the trouble.
Carlo Ancelotti described him as the “best i have seen for his age”, and John Obi Mikel called him “the most skilful player at Chelsea”, which is some compliment indeed!
Kakuta himself reckons that it a lot easier to play in the Premiership with the first team than it is to play against reserve sides!
“Yes, it is easier than the reserves,” he said. ” Because the game is much quicker, you have more choice when you play, you can play one touch, two touch, so it is much better,”
“I wasn’t nervous at all. My fitness is good because of the ban I have been out for months, but I have worked double sessions every day and I feel good. It has been a little bit like pre-season, because when the boys finished I was still in, working in the afternoons.”
Considering he was banned from playing for the six weeks before the FIFA ban was suspended, you just have to admire his dedication in carrying on in the face of adversity.
