Kalou to replace Drogba against Atletico

Didier Drogba has been suspended for Chelsea’s last three Champions League games, and it looks like he is going to miss the fourth one too.

Nicolas Anelka scored the winners in the first two matches, but Salomon Kalou came good in the last match against Atletico, scoring twice in a 4-0 win. He followed that up with another one against Bolton in the Carling Cup.

With Chelsea having nine points in the Group, and virtually assured of top spot, Carlo Ancelotti is going to rest some of his big name players, especially with the crunch game against Man Utd coming up at the weekend.

Ancelotti made clear that Drogba and other stars wouldn’t be playing this evening when he said: “Drogba had a little problem with his leg and we have to wait. I would like to change something.

“We have fresh players in good condition and I want to use all the players.”

A virtual reserve team won Chelsea’s Carling Cup match against Bolton last week, and it is likely that Ancelotti will start with a similar team tomorrow night in Madrid, with Kalou guaranteed another chance to shine in the premier European competition.
