Lacazette Set For Chelsea Move As United Pulls Out After Depay Purchase

Alexandre Lacazette

As Chelsea locked up the Premier League title for the first time in five years, José Mourinho will look to strengthen his squad for next season. He has been linked to some of the world’s biggest stars, including Gareth Bale, Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, and Alexandre Lacazette. Chelsea face opposition in signing these stars, most from other top English clubs, including Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.

With the rumored departure of Didier Drogba for the MLS, and question marks surrounding Loïc Rémy’s future at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will have to look to bring in another striker. Patrick Bamford and Dom Solanke are not ready for first team Premier League football just yet, and promoting them is not an option for Mourinho.

Alexandre Lacazette has exploded this season, scoring 27 goals in just 31 Ligue 1 appearances. He has recently been heavily linked to a move to Chelsea, and would play alongside Diego Costa next season, creating one of the most prolific attacks in all of Europe. Chelsea was thought to have been facing competition from Louis van Gaal and Manchester United for the signature of the Frenchman, but according to reports United have backed out of the race after signing Memphis Depay.

This is brilliant news for Chelsea supporters, because if Lacazette truly wants to leave Lyon, then Chelsea would be one of the few options. It his highly doubtful that he will choose to sign for Ligue 1 rival, PSG, with Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimović dominating the playing time up top.

Lacazette would be a better option to sign than the likes of Paulo Dybala, Danny Ings, Charlie Austin, Christian Benteke or any other striker linked to a move to Stamford Bridge this summer. He has one of the most important traits in football, especially in England, which is consistency. Lacazette has showed up time and time again for Lyon, and has pushed his side to a second place finish this season. He would be scoring goals left and right, week in and week out for Chelsea.

It will be very interesting to see what Lacazette decides to do this summer, and if he does decide to sign for Chelsea, watch out.
