It has been known that after the Newcastle game, Andre Villas-Boas have spoken publicly that Alex and Anelka, having handed in a transfer request, would be allowed to leave the club, and they have since proceeded on to having separate trainings on their own.
Nicolas Anelka, now 33, have been at the club for four years now, and have proven to have an effective strike partner in fellow want-away striker Didier Drogba. He has been prolific since then, making decent runs and having an relatively impressive run as Drogba’s strike partner under the previous manager, Carlo Ancelotti, when playing the diamond- 4-4-2 formation. Due to the controversy at the 2010 World Cup, Anelka have since quit international football, and thus have pledged to ‘commit his all to the club.” And it is precisely this reason why the act of letting Anelka go being a bad choice.
Anelka is now, technically, still a player at Stamford Bridge, but he could all but stay with the Blues after submitting in a transfer request. Anelka is now no longer tied to the French national team, and as such could prove to be a very valuable asset when it come to long stints without main strikers such as perhaps the possibility of main strikers such as in the possibility of main players being injured in the course of international duty. As such, when it comes to the depth of the squad, Nicolas Anelka could yet supply more of a experience and added depth into the bench if he does stay in the team. As such,I would say it’s a wrong choice to allow Anelka to leave the team at this juncture, especially right in the transfer window that he would provide his skill in at a time when players are more prone to injury.
Personally, Alex would prove to be a much more stable partnership with John Terry when it comes to the Centre-back pairing. Much promises and hopes were tied to the arrival of the 24-year old from Benfica, with prospects of him taking over the main role in Defence when John Terry eventually retires, but until now David Luiz have not yet lived up to this great expectation of him, more evident of him being only capable of spinning in circles when Liverpool played Chelsea earlier last month, when Chelsea lost 1-2 to Liverpool, and it was because of his spinning that CHelsea conceded the goal that led to the embarrassing loss at Anfield. As such, Alex would prove to be a more stable and reliable companion in defence as compared to David Luiz, with his more experienced footwork and more composed manners as compared to hot-headed David Luiz, the latter frequently getting cards due to his inability to control anger. As such it is a huge loss for Chelsea to let go of Alex.
Your arguments are leaky. They do not hold water. Just observe what has been going on this season, and then carefully re-write this. Alex and Anelka are moving on, neither Chelsea nor them are losing.
Nice piece but i totally disagree wit all you have just said, particularly on anelka
Anelka had to go. I like him a lot but he is no longer good. Kalou, Malouda, Mikel, Essien have to go, too. Bosingua as well. Even Drogba. Although Drogba is my alltime favorite
No idea what the other comment is babbling on about, why do people try and use text language on a post.
Anyway, Alex i agree and think he should have stayed. But Anelka? Problem is Anelka hasnt fitted out wide. I think he has scored one goal in something like 25? Anelka is better down the middle and there is no room at Chelsea for another middle striker. He now lacks pace and when he does have the ball, he slows the game up and so the opposition get back and get their lines sorted.
For me, Anelka should have gone in the summer but i thought Alex would have stayed on. He was always a good option with Terry, Maybe chelsea or AvB know something we dont~possibly an injury and why they want him gone so badly?
Time for a change, out with the old, deal with it. I know Alex still has some years left but obvio not part of the long term plans, this clear out should have been done last season.
