If you believe reports in the British paper in the last few weeks, Chelsea is set for a summer spending spree and that spending spree could see them beat Arsenal to the signing of AS Monaco’s Geoffery Kondogbia for a price said to be around £25 million.

That Chelsea could do with a player of the status of Kondogbia as the club has been overly reliant on Matic is an open secretly however, it was believed Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will beat Mourinho to the signing of the player using his well known French connection to his advantage once again. Metro however thinks otherwise. According to Metro, Chelsea are egding ever close to signing the player and this they hope they can achieve for not more than £25 million.

Kondogbia has played a total of 21 games for Monaco this season in all competition, Scoring one goal ( against Arsenal ) and assisting one other goal as Monaco are set to make a back to back return to the champions league for the first time in 10 years after the heroics of this season which saw them defeat Arsenal enroute to the quarter final before surrendering to Juventus. The player’s current contract ends in 2018 which ordinarily would have meant Monaco are in a position of strength to keep the player but with FFP hammers hanging on their head, Chelsea and any other club interested in signing the player should find it easy.

Should he sign for Chelsea, he will be a reliable option to Matic when necessary. His versatility means Jose Mourinho can call on him for the centre back role as well as the box to box and defensive midfield ( sitting four as it is otherwise known ) role whenever necessary.
