For quite a while now, every transfer window comes with Chelsea’s John Mikel Obi rumoured to be on his way to Turkey. Galatasaray have renewed their interest in the Chelsea midfielder and hope to get him this time around when the January transfer window opens.
The Turkish giants have been linked with Mikel in the past without success and they are back for him in their search for a defensive midfielder. The position was left void following the departure of Felipe Melo to Inter Milan last summer.
Mikel joined Chelsea from Lyn Oslo in 2006 and has made over 225 appearances for the Blues. However, he has not featured regularly for the English side. The Nigerian midfielder has played only nine games for Chelsea this season and is at best a fringe player who is not indispensable.
If the right offer is tabled, Mustafa Denizili’s side are sure to get their man this time around. Also, the lure of regular game time could attract Mikel to the Turkish side, who currently have Wesley Sneijder, Lukas Podolski and Kevin Grosskreutz playing for them.
Some other reports in the Turkish media have reported that Mikel has in fact agreed a deal to sign for Gala and a medical is already planned but the club is waiting on Chelsea to give them the go ahead to complete the deal.
