The Wigan defender Mario Melchiot spent five good years at Chelsea before moving up north, and thinks that his new team need to be safe from relegation before going to Stamford Bridge for the last game of the season, as he knows Chelsea will be looking to end the season in style.
His team are away at Arsenal tomorrow and he would like to take the three points which would practically guarantee them Premier League football for another year, as well as destroy Arsenal’s slim hopes of winning the title.
“You don’t want to be going there requiring a result, especially if Chelsea have already won it.” he said.
“I know what it is like at Stamford Bridge on the final day of the season. They’ll be trying to put on a show for their fans.
“It’s very important we are safe before we go there.
“All our remaining games are like cup finals for us. It’s vital that we stay in the Premier League.”
If you beat Arsenal tomorrow Mario, I’m sure all the Chelsea players will be queueing up to buy you a bottle of champagne!
