Mexican outfit Monterrey set for semi-final battle with Chelsea

Mexico’s Monterrey beat South Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai 3-1 to book their place in the World Club Cup semi-finals.

Monterrey will now meet Chelsea on Thursday at 10:30 GMT.

Monterrey gave a great performance against the South Korean side, dominating the game, only to concede a very late consolation goal.

The Mexican side opened the scoring inside 10 minutes through a nice piece of passing play, being finished off by Jesus Corona. Cesar Delgado doubled their lead in the 77th minute following a Corona back-heel.

Cesar Delgado added the third with a thunderous strike, 5 minutes from time, before Ulsan scored their only goal of the game in injury time.

In the other quarter final, Egypt’s Al Ahly beat Japanese champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima 2-1, and will meet Corinthians in Wednesday’s semi-final.

Chelsea will compete in their first WCC this week, starting on Thursday and will do without the help of their captain John Terry, who misses out through injury. I will be watching our teams matches and will keep you up-to-date on all the latest goings on in Japan.
