Nigerian midfielder John Obi Mikel has played over 200 games for Chelsea in his five years at the club, and he has enjoyed his fair share of success during that time. He is enjoying life under the new manager and he has been speaking to the clubs official website about the recent tour of Asia which resulted in the first trophy of the season.
Last season Chelsea endured a torrid time during pre-season, losing games against Hamburg, Ajax and Eintracht Frankfurt, and losing the Charity Shield against Manchester United, but it has been a different story this year with five wins from five games and no goals conceded.
Losing can become a habit, as can winning, and Mikel has said that keeping their winning run going was very important to the players. Saturdays win against Aston Villa was probably the best performance so far during pre-season and Mikel said, “It was good and for us it was all about getting back to our fitness, but at the same time, it was an important game.”
He went on to add, “We wanted to win this trophy, the manager really wanted us to win it too, and we went out and we did what we had to do.”
Chelsea have one pre-season game left against Glasgow Rangers this coming Saturday, and Mikel and Chelsea will be targeting another win to keep
their 100% record going for a bit longer yet. Chelsea supporters will be hoping the run continues too, not just on Saturday, but long into the new Premier League season as well.
