The long drawn out transfer saga of Luka Modric to Chelsea will just not go away despite the transfer window now being closed, and according to Spurs legend Ossie Ardiles Spurs can do nothing to stop the move happening in the future.
It is well known that Chelsea made numerous attempts to sign Modric during the summer, and there were even reports suggesting that £40million was offered on deadline day.
The diminutive Croatian midfielder was unhappy with Daniel Levy and Spurs for not letting him move to Chelsea, but for now they seem to have settled their differences. Modric played a starring role for Spurs at the weekend against Liverpool and opened the scoring as his team won 4-0, but Ossie Ardiles thinks that Modric will still leave White Hart Lane.
Speaking yesterday the Argentinian said, “In my time, when all the power was with the chairman or with the club, you could not stop players leaving. If a player wanted to leave, at the end of the day, he would leave. Right now, with all the power in the player’s hands, you cannot possibly stop that. If Luka Modric, or whoever, wants to leave the club, he will.”
It remains to be seen if Chelsea will come back with an improved offer for Modric in January, but one thing is guaranteed this is not the last we will hear about Luka Modric to Chelsea.
