Mourinho Wants £25m Long Term Ivanonic Replacement Deal Done & Dusted

Seamus Coleman

This past season was not the Premier League’s strongest, but it was certainly one of Chelsea’s best. Teams like Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Everton were not the same quality sides that they were just a few seasons ago. Manchester City had weaknesses in the back four, and in their midfield. It has been rumored that Pellegrini could be sacked, and that the owners will go on a £350million spending spree to build an ultimate squad.

Manchester United just hired Louis van Gaal before last season, and his squad is not yet complete with issues now on the attacking side and in the back four. There will be plenty of changes and lots of talent added to the Premier League for next season, and teams like Southampton and Crystal Palace could succeed in these conditions. But with the new threats rising, Mourinho will have to look to widen the gap between Chelsea and the other19 teams in the Premier League. He could do that by adding depth, one of the few weaknesses in his squad this past season.

We saw the issues when Diego Costa, Didier Drogba, and Loic Remy were all injured, and we saw it when either Cesc Fabregas or Nemanja Matic were not available either. But one key statistic is that John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic played in every Premier League game this season for Chelsea. That is a huge problem, because neither are getting any younger.

Ivanovic is now 31 years of age, John Terry, 34. Chelsea purchased Filipe Luis last summer to help try and take some of the burden off of Ivanovic’s shoulders, but Luis failed to break into Mourinho’s squad throughout the season. Kurt Zouma is a wonderful center back, but he and Gary Cahill lack the quality to play alongside eachother in the Premier League. Mourinho will have to add another defender to push farther into the F.A. Cup competition, and in the Champions League.

One player that has been heavily linked to a move to Stamford Bridge is Everton’s Seamus Coleman, who can play both as a full back and as a center back. Chelsea would have to bid somewhere near Everton’s £25million demand,  but he would be worth every bit of it.
