Samir Khedira is set to depart Real Madrid at the end of the season after a 5-year spell with the Spanish giants. The Germany international is being linked with a move to the Barclay’s English Premier League, as the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and United are all keen to have him with them. But the 28 year-old insists he hasn’t reached an agreement with any club yet. His home country’s side, Schalke also wants his services and the Chairman, Clemens Tonnies says the midfielder is in talks with them.
“We are in talks and the signs suggest he’s keen on a move to Schalke. I would be happy if it works out. He’s a great player with a strong personality, but nothing has yet been signed.”
But with Chelsea in need of a midfielder of his status, the EPL Champions might start making a move for the player. Khedira has been plagued with injuries during most of his times in Madrid. And with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric always on form this season, the coach, Ancelotti picks them ahead of an unfit Khedira who has only made 17 appearances across all competitions with no goals. The arrival of Brazilian youngster, Lucas Silva back in January has further compounded his woes.
Khedira however says leaving the Bernabeu isn’t a decision against the team. He says,
“It’s not a decision against Real Madrid. I want to start a new stage in my career and continue to grow”
The 54-time capped German machine who has until June 30 at Madrid says he is yet to decide his next destination. The world cup winner has helped his side win the La Liga , the Champions League, the Uefa Super Cup, Fifa Club world cup and two Copa del Rey trophies. It is hoped he will make a decision soon as he says,
‘I don’t have an agreement with any club nor any preferences as to who I would like to join’.
Chelsea sees him as a good backup choice for the midfield position.
