It seems EPL Champions, Chelsea have given up on the acquisition of Atletico Madrid forward, Antoine Griezmann. The club has been in talks with the Rojiblancos over a transfer of the France international to Stamford bridge for over 4 weeks, but it didn’t look like Atleti were going to yield at any particular point in time. Super agent, Jorge Mendes was used to serve as a broker between both clubs, and it was thought his cordial relationship with the club’s president, Enrique Cerezo would make a deal work out. But it looks nothing is forthcoming, as Enrique Cerezo has told the press of recent, “Fans can now dream but I think the team is very good. We’re going to make two or three purchases.
Griezmann? He is not for sale.” With this declaration, Chelsea are better off looking elsewhere for the lethal striker they want, as it doesn’t look like Griezmann will leave the Vicente Calderon by summer.
Mourinho might have already hinted at the club’s current stand regarding the transfer of the striker when he said,
“Griezmann is a great striker but is not within our objectives to strengthen the squad for next season. We are not interested”.
Obviously 43 million pounds and a Filipe Luiz return to the club aren’t enough to lure the club into selling their most prized possession. The player finished La Liga with 22 goals in 37 appearances, making him joint 3rd highest goal scorer with Barcelona’s Neymar. The 24 year-old just finished his debut season with the dethroned La Liga Champions, after joining from Real
Sociedad last summer for 24 million pounds. Chelsea had hope to snatch him as a replacement for the departed Drogba, and also as an added power to the front line, but Atletico haven’t been keen on a release, and had gone ahead to double his buyout clause after improving his contracts. His name must have been strike out off Chelsea’s to-do list for the summer transfer window.
