Callum Wilson was no doubt one of the best players in the Championship this concluded season. The Bournemouth forward has been brilliant for his side and has attracted offers from EPL sides even as his club moves to the top flight next season. The Gunners were once touted as favourites to sign him, but it seems they are about to enter a fierce battle for his signature as Chelsea have reportedly join the race. The blues have been keen on bringing in more attacking options for next season’s campaign. And the 23 year-old may just be that needed backup for Spain international, Costa.
Callum’s 20 goals in 45 division two games have helped the club reach top flight for the first ever time in their history. The forward has just spent a season with Bournemouth after having completed a 3 million pound-transfer from his home club, Coventry after 5 years with them as they went back and forth between the 2nd and 3rd divisions. With his form, Wenger is said to see a great competition for Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck after having failed to win the league in more than 10 years for the Emirates side. Trailing leaders, Chelsea with less than 10 points, Arsenal’s contention for the EPL title has been rather poor, following runs of inconsistent performance.
Chelsea however wants replacement for Drogba and Remy, and the hardworking and fast forward, fits well into the Chelsea’s style of play. Bournemouth however might want to keep him, in order to make the best of their EPL debut, but a fee of 3 million pounds, or more from Chelsea is likely to make them reconsider any option of not selling, and the player who is yet to receive a national team call up wouldn’t mind playing for such a trophy-winning side.
