Athletico Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has admitted that he is happy at his current club, despite being on loan from Chelsea FC.
The 20 year-old keeper was signed by Chelsea 18 months ago, and is yet to make his competitive debut for the club.
The Belgian is currently playing in his second season-long loan at the Vicente Calderon, and with Petr Cech ever consistent in goal, Courtois has said he would be happy to stay at Athletico to continue playing first-team football.
“I am Chelsea player, but I am happy here,” he said. “I’ll have to see what is best for them but I would be very happy if I stayed here for another year.
“I still haven’t spoken to Chelsea though. If I can’t play for them, then Atletico is the best club I can be at.”
Barcelona have recently expressed an interest in the young goalkeeper, who has played a huge part for Athletico already.
Courtois has impressed between the sticks, winning the Europa League, European Super Cup, and currently leading his team to second in the league. His team are currently 7 points ahead of third-placed Real Madrid.
Chelsea however are thought to hold the goalkeeping wonderkid in high regard, and would be unwilling to negotiate his sale. It is thought he may stay at the Bridge next season, to fight Cech for the role of no.1.
I believe one more season away at Athletico could lead the player to want to stay permanently. That we do not wish to happen. Courtois is one of the hottest young properties on the continent and could dominate the the Chelsea no.1 shirt for many years to come.
