New Chelsea manager André Villas-Boas is not wasting any time in his new job and is already planning to raid his former club for two players. Villas-Boas has identified Porto striker Falcoa and playmaker Joao Moutinho as targets to reinvigorate the Chelsea squad.
Villas-Boas, who was confirmed as the new Chelsea manager on Wednesday, has signed a 3 year contract with the Blues and will look to reshape the squad. Some of Chelsea’s ageing stars look set to leave the club this summer and the Portugese coach will want to use the money to bring in new players.
According to the Sun the Porto president Jorge Pinto da Costa says that the players will cost £62 million according to their contracts .
He said: “If there are termination clauses we have to prepare for the possibility that a player will leave at the value set out. But I am not going to negotiate that price with anyone. As with Villas-Boas, there was no conversation with Chelsea, just the money paid into our account to release him”.
Falcao, 25, has been playing for Porto since 2009. He has made 85 appearances for the club in which he has scored 73 times. Moutinho, 24, has been at the club since 2010 and has played in 50 games for the club.
Chelsea will look to raise money for the pair by selling some of their current stars. Players like Drogba, Anelka, Malouda, Kalou and Essien could be heading for the Stamford Bridge exit to raise the necessary cash.
I’d double check your sources, Falcao’s release is at 30 million euros where Moutinho is at 22. That’s a maximum of 52 million euros, far less than 62 million british pounds.
Chelsea can do better than Falcao. We would not even be discussing Falcao if it were not for Villas-Boaz being his previous coach. Neymar must be Chelsea’s priority. Chelsea needs a creative striker-winger. Neymar is often seen attacking from the wing because of his speed, but he actually plays all front and mid positions; in fact he often switches positions during a game to confuse the opposition. He is good at breaking down defences; he is an expert at sending defenders the wrong way, and provides perfectly weighted through-balls. He would work well with Torres or Drogba. In short, Neymar has the potential to be another Messi. Chelsea must get Neymar if they are serious about winning the Champions League.
