Rafa Benitez starts day one at Chelsea

The new Chelsea FC interim manager is to meet the Chelsea squad at their Cobham base today for the first time as boss, and with the team thought to be distraught after Roberto Di Matteo´s sacking, Rafa will have his work cut out from the off.

The new boss was far from the Chelsea fans choice to be manager, even on a temporary basis, so the Spaniard will have plenty to prove to fans and players alike.

The only player who will definitely be excited by today’s arrival is Fernando Torres, whose relationship with the manager is thought to have been a huge influence on his signing.

Benitez spoke about Torres’ current form before his appointment saying “I think you can see in his face that he is almost trying too hard. But I think the potential is still there.

“The problem with some players is that they are doing so well in a team and the understanding is so good that it is difficult to replicate that in another team.

“Sometimes, it is a question of time, but he is a good player, is keen to learn and is a good professional.”

Benitez was the last manager to get the best out of ‘el ninó’ and Roman Abramovich will be hoping to see some more of the same, and I’m sure we are all hoping to see the best from Torres, form we had glimpses of at the start of the season but fizzled out…
