Romeu looking to cement place in Chelsea first team

Oriol Romeu, signed from Barcelona with a buy back clause in the recent Summer transfer window, is trying to cement his place as a regular in the Chelsea first team after starting in the last four games, of which the Blues won three of them with him in the team.

“I came because there was more chance of playing and to be playing in games of this magnitude – against Valencia and against Manchester City – is a marvel,” he said. “I love playing generally, but it is even more enjoyable when it is in important games. I really like the style here. I liked watching it on TV before and I like it even more now, playing in it. It is a different kind of football – more physical, with more contact and quicker.”

Romeu is also looking to build on his recent successes, after gaining the faith of Villas-Boas the manager, and hopes and aims to get a place in the first team ahead of the crucial clash with League leaders Manchester city. Chelsea now trails City by 10 points, looking to end the club’s unbeaten run in the League.

“The City game is a great chance to show everyone what we can do when we are playing well, against the league leaders. If we win, it will prove that we are still fighting for the league.”
