Salomon Kalou to sign new contract at last

The Times reports that Chelsea and Salomon Kalou have come to an agreement on a new contract.

The report says: Salomon Kalou is set to become an unlikely beneficiary of Chelsea’s transfer ban, with the Ivory Coast striker close to agreeing a new contract.

The 23-year-old’s deal expires at the end of the season, but the club have made an improved offer in recent days and his signature is imminent.

Chelsea were keen to retain Kalou’s services in any case, but the prospect of being unable to sign any new players for two transfer windows has increased the need to tie their existing squad to long-term contracts.

The club are planning to appeal against Fifa’s decision over their behaviour surrounding the transfer of Gaël Kakuta from Lens at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, but if the ban is upheld, they will not even be able to recall players on season-long loans, so keeping Carlo Ancelotti’s present squad together is crucial.

Great news for Chelsea AND Kalou!
