It has been a busy few days for Chelsea in the transfer market, with Oriol Romeu and Romelu Lukaku signing contracts at Stamford Bridge, and there may be a third player on his way very soon.
The player in question is Douglas Costa of Shakhtar Donetsk, and according to reports today Chelsea are preparing a bid of around £10million for the young Brazilian midfielder.
Costa is only 20 and signed for Donetsk at the beginning of last season, but after a series of impressive displays in the Champions League he has been attracting a lot of interest. Chelsea may face competition from Arsenal and Spurs though, who are both in the market for reasonably priced players right now.
Andre Villas-Boas wants to add young creative players to his squad, having already missed out on Javier Pastore, and all seems to have gone quiet on the Luka Modric front as well now, so Costa would fit the bill nicely. More will be known later this week as enquires are expected to turn into offers, but at a relatively cheap price of £10million surely a bargain for a player of the future.
While investment in young players is great, where does that leave our much hyped youth academy investment. I noticed that Michael Woods was released, after costing us half of 5 million – he signed with Taiwo from Leeds.
exciting player..quick..good setpiece taker..dribbler and scorer..we shud get him but il also have to agree with @ben on he youth academy investment cauz i remember we lost fabio borini, mancienne who were very promising..and we are pushing kakuta away after we struggled to get him
@Ben, our academy is doing alright having produced guys like bertrand, josh, kalas, matej delac, sturridge, chalobah etc. However we have to accept the fact that not every player will turnout to be a chelsea first team player in the future. I guess our youth & reserve coaches who monitor the players day in & day out realize this and cash in on some below par players who are good enough for mid to low level premier league sides. Two players whom we didn’t handle properly were stoch & borini and there I accept the failure of our management. They could’ve become good players for us.
I think Chelsea made a right deal having bid a player like brazilian in Charter Donestk’ is a good player anyway and should be add quality Chelsea midfied problems But I thought a rightful player for chelsea midfied drought is this Bayer Midfied player (Schwensteger).
we can talk a gud luk at barca they always use their acadamy boys in order to strengthen them 4 1st team. So why can we do that.
Douglas Costa for me is very talented, he’ll add that flair which is lacking in our play. I also admire his team mate and fellow Brazilian Willian, the guy is a quick and brilliant winger and good with both feet. I believe AVB knows what he wants and will certainly make his move, the sky is getting more blue. Up The Chels!!!
If he is right player for d midfield role, chelsea should go ahead sign him,on time ,before rivals come for him
Yes nt all our younth playerz will b play first team is gud we’ve cash in on them,bt we need 2 get costa very fast,he will b able 2 mingle very fast, thankx avb.
Until d deal is done, y rejoice.. Dis is just news..
I still believe we dnt need modric in dat team.. If at all, not now, cos no one presently has d guts to play modric instead of lampard.. And yu cnt play modric, lampard and ramires @ d same tym, cos ramires and modric are both walkaholics.. By nxt season, i see lampard on d bench for d likes of modric..
Anyone remeber we signed Lucas Piazon? How is his style of play? Dribbler or what? He is coming at early 2012 right?
I tink they two brazilians in sharktar doneskt douglas nd williams are great lads even in d field of play they wil improve cfc midfield wit williams on wing side nd doughlas on d middle wit d help of ramirez nd mikel there wil be much improvement on chelsea side.hope AVB sign d two,am already blue, bluez 4 life
Good article, AVB pls buy Sniejder
Hey Andrew,
Lucas Piazon is a brilliant 17 year old creative midfielder, he is a dribbler with great passing ability. Shooting skill are also perfect, he also looks cute and I think we can call him “The Young Kaka”. Overall I will say that he is a “Genious” and one of the best signings for Chelsea.
